Greg had his aneurysm June 28, 1996. . .He was in a coma 15 1/2 days. He was in grave danger. . . They told me he would never do anything but sit in a wheelchair the rest of his life...People kept telling me there was a rehab unit in Piqua that was really good...(The director) told me she was sure they could help... Greg was determined and on March 30, 1998 Greg walked out the door (of the nursing home) for the last time, by himself...We know Greg is one of our miracles and without the help of all the wonderful people and volunteers at the Rehabilitation Center we have no idea where he would be today.

Our son ....had shown signs of Pervasive Developmental Delay (PDD) very early in his childhood...He had a great deal of difficulty expressing himself...and even the smallest of transitions often led to rage reactions. He struggled terribly in social settings, terrified of crowds and avoiding any peer relations or play. It seemed almost like he knew he didn't fit in and he cried so often. A friend suggested we look into the Rehab Center to supplement ... (his) early intervention preschool program... Thank God for that message. He began his program and in all honesty, we could see a change almost IMMEDIATELY!....It seemed like both sides of his brain were finally working together and all of the things that hadn't come natural were beginning to happen for him!...We are absolutely sure that the Rehab Center helped bring on his full potential and we are so thankful for that! . . .thank you for the work you have done with Max. I have seen great improvements in his educational abilities. . .
Before, Max couldn't and wouldn't read, especially in public. Over the weekend, he started reading a sign out in publice correctly. A big smile went across his face and he said "Mom! I just read that!" I said, "Yes, you did!" and I was overjoyed. It was wonderful. He spent the rest of the day trying to read signs, cards, papers, etc. . He kept saying he couldn't believe he was able to read the signs. . .
I just wanted you to know that you are making a difference and to thank you for your good, hard work.
Also, I wanted to thank the board and anyone else responsible for Max receiving his scholarship to Nicholas School. It has enabled me to send Max there so he can get the help he needs to succeed.
Thank you again VERY much,
Max's mom, Beverly
"We believe (our son) has been given a unique opportunity to thrive as he prepares to enter kindergarten. We may even have to consider revision of some of his IEP goals thanks to the dedication and support he has received in the 'school readiness program' at Nicholas School."

(Since starting your program) fear and anxiety have been noticeably reduced. She is not as shy in social situations. She has given up her bedtime ritual of being tucked in tight and is sleeping in a twin bed. (She had been afraid.) She is now swinging and sliding-not terrified of playground equipment, hairdryers, hand dryers, vibrating toothbrushes etc. Her meltdowns are 1/2 to 3/4 less often. Clothing issues have calmed down somewhat also. She will now wear flip flops/shoes without backs which used to be frustrating/angering for her. I've noticed many positive changes. Life has been more enjoyable/less stressful for the entire family. Thank you!
